The Send WhatsApp block lets you as a business proactively send a template message to a single/group of contacts over WhatsApp. Businesses use the Send WhatsApp block to notify users about an event, marketing promotions, sending transactional information like invoices, reminders etc.

> [!NOTE]
>
> This block requires access to the **WhatsApp Business API** and an approved WhatsApp template. The contact must also be eligible to receive business-initiated messages.

**Before you start:** Make sure you have an approved WhatsApp template and that the contact has opted in to receive messages from your business. [Learn how to create a WhatsApp Template](https://help.wotnot.io/deploy/channels/whatsapp/templates.md#creating-a-template).

# Using the Send WhatsApp block

Using the Send WhatsApp action block, you can send a WhatsApp message proactively to your contact.

Most commonly used for use cases like:

* Sending promotional message
* Feedback surveys
* Appointment confirmation

## Configurations

1. Add the 'Send WhatsApp' action block on the canvas
2. Choose the WhatsApp number you want to send the message from using the 'From' field.
3. Choose the variable containing the contact's phone number in the 'To' field
4. Select the approved WhatsApp template message that you want to send

If you have used 'Reply buttons' in your template message, you can configure the button payload you want to send for each button.

### WhatsApp number

Select the WhatsApp number from which the campaign message should be sent.

The number must be connected to your WhatsApp Business API. If you have multiple WhatsApp numbers configured, make sure you select the number associated with the template you want to use.

### **Template selection**

Select the approved WhatsApp template that you want to send.

WhatsApp template messages can contain a **header, body, footer, and interactive buttons**. Templates may also contain variables that need to be populated when the campaign runs.

Only templates that are approved can be used to send business-initiated WhatsApp messages. Templates that are still under review or have been rejected cannot be sent.

See [Creating a WhatsApp Template](https://help.wotnot.io/campaigns/one-off.md) for information about creating and submitting templates.

### Variable mapping

If your template contains variables, map each placeholder to the corresponding value available in the campaign.

You can update the mapping without changing the approved WhatsApp template. If the value you want to send is stored in a different bot variable, simply select the appropriate variable for the template placeholder.

**Example:**

If your template contains:`Hi {{1}}, welcome to WotNot!`

You can initially map: `{{1}} → name`

Later, you can change it to: `{{1}} → customer_name`

If `customer_name` contains **John**, the recipient receives:

> Hi John, welcome to WotNot!

> [!TIP]
>
> Changing the variable mapping does not change the approved WhatsApp template. It only determines which WotNot variable provides the value for the template variable when the message is sent.

### **Buttons' payload**

A **button payload** is the value sent when a user clicks a button in an outbound message. WotNot uses this payload to identify the user's selection and can use it to **trigger or continue an inbound bot flow**.

Suppose an outbound WhatsApp message contains a button:

**Button name:** `Book a Demo`\
**Button Payload:** `Book`

When the user clicks `Book a Demo`, WotNot receives the `Book` payload and can use it to trigger the corresponding inbound bot, allowing the conversation to continue from the selected action.

Book a Demo → Book→ Booking Flow

### Track Links

Enabling this feature tracks all link clicks on this message.

# Output paths

The **Send WhatsApp** block outputs a single path to move forward to the next step in the chat flow.
